The Mighty Elephant was founded by a CSA survivor ready to confront what the Australian dance industry has ignored for too long: systemic abuse and the failure to protect young dancers.
As a brand new organization tackling child safety and abuse prevention, they faced a difficult challenge: making a sensitive topic digestible, yet bold enough to start a trend.
Making a heavy topic feel approachable.
Advocacy sites are known for being clinical, sterile and boring to look at.
Boring wasn't going to cut it if we wanted to reach a community of young creatives.
By intentionally using bright colors and playful design elements, we created an engaging experience without it feeling juvenile. The elephant became the perfect metaphor: resilient, community-oriented, protective and impossible to ignore. The messaging is conversational and human, inviting people into Dean's story rather than lecturing them.
Putting child safety into action.
The Mighty Elephant became a defining moment in the Australian dance industry, bringing a previously silenced issue into the open and turning it into a movement that dancers, teachers, parents, businesses and organisations across the industry could no longer ignore.
Most importantly, it's creating the change the Australian dance industry desperately needed.
